an indie rock theological soap opera . by charles schneeflock snow . not dead, only sleeping

I'm really sorry, guys, but I'm not going to be able to continue Sordid City Blues. I've been in denial about this for a while, but I'm distracted by fatherhood, I'm disillusioned with web comics, and my daughter has changed my life and beliefs enough that I'm having trouble relating to my characters and their storylines. But most importantly, I'm not having fun any more. I may return to SCB one day, but for now I'm leaving the comic where it is. I'm very sorry that I did this in the middle of a story arc; I should have stopped after Road. Anyway, any other projects I do will be linked prominently from this site.

Also, I just finished prepress on the collection of my Road story arc. It should be available from Comixpress soon.

Peter Venables gave me the idea for this particular ending. He's not working on 13 Seconds any more; which is sad, I miss Wally. But he's got this superhero thing going that he'll be posting soon. I'm looking forward to that.

Meanwhile, my friend and occasional collaborator Alicia Goranson has a book out. I'm a lazy reader so I haven't actually read the thing, but here is the press release:

Supervillainz is a novel for fans of comics who have been dying to read about an all-GLBT Scooby Gang that takes on a pack of superheroes. It has romance, car chases, superheroes, epic battles in dyke bars and a climax that will have you reaching for the tissues. It won the 2004 Project QueerLit Award, and was the Finalist for a 2006 Lambda Literary Award.

Suzanne Corson, of Books the Watch Out For, gives a good summary: "In Supervillainz, a group of vigilantes in body armor with animal-like masks and superhero powers have captured the attention of folks in the Boston area. When one of the "Supas" foils the mugging of Bit and Devon, a crowd from a nearby club gathers to witness the fight between the attacker and the Supa. A gunshot changes the course of events drastically, and Devon and Bit later find themselves in even more danger than the original mugging. Their friends of various gender and affectional stripes help Bit and Devon navigate survival, investigation, and revenge, with some dyke drama-like interactions thrown in for good measure... It's all about the action, the chase, the gadgetry... I love books that have an ensemble feel with interesting supporting characters."

There's audio clips, sample chapters and comics at www.supervillainz.com.

"When anyone is disturbed or saddened under the pretext of a good and soul-profiting matter, and is angered against his neighbour, it is evident that this is not according to God: for everything that is of God is peaceful and useful and leads a man to humility and to judging himself." -- St. Barsanuphius the Great
